Winter Wonderland: A Dreamy Lenzerheide Engagement Session

Although I’m now based in Italy, Switzerland is a place I find myself returning to throughout the year. The rhythm of the mountains, especially in winter, is something that never really leaves you. Lenzerheide, in particular, has always held a special place for me. It’s where I've spent a lot time with my grandparents, going mushroom hunting in the summer and playing in the snow in the winter (I unfortunately moved to Florida and spent my childhood NOT learning to ski, to the horror of my grandparents)
So when I had the opportunity to photograph a couples session in one of my favorite places in the world, I jumped on it. Xenia and Andre were incredible, braving the cold and laughing through it all, completely unfazed by the temperatures and fully present with each other.
Why Lenzerheide is a Photographer’s Dream
While many tourists flock to St. Moritz or Zermatt, Lenzerheide offers a unique blend of high-end Alpine charm and rugged, untouched nature. For this session, we focused on:
The Frozen Lake: The Heidsee provides a vast, minimalist backdrop that makes the couple truly "pop."
Golden Hour in the Alvaneu Bad: The way the sun hits the peaks around 3:00 PM in the winter creates a soft, golden glow that is incredibly flattering for skin tones.
Texture and Contrast: The deep greens of the Swiss stone pines against the bright white snow create a natural color palette that feels timeless.
How to dress for a Winter Photoshoot
If you’re thinking about booking your own winter photoshoot, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Layer Up: Thermal leggings under your outfit are a lifesaver. You want to look effortless, not frozen!
Movement is Key: I always encourage my couples to walk, dance, and even have a snowball fight. It keeps the blood flowing and the smiles authentic.
Timing: In the Swiss mountains, the sun disappears behind the peaks earlier than you’d think. We usually aim to start 90 minutes before the official sunset.
Lenzerheide Photoshoot
Switzerland is more than just a backdrop; it’s an experience. My goal as a photographer is to capture the quiet, honest moments between you and your partner against some of the most stunning landscapes in the world.
Whether you are planning a surprise proposal, celebrating an engagement, or just want beautiful memories of your time in the Alps, I’d love to help you tell your story.
